Jamil James Belga (20) has become one of my good friends. He’s very joyful — always laughing and smiling. Mostly, we talk about music, like which bands to check out or how to improve our guitar-playing skills. Sometimes, we play together.
I can see in him the attitude lacking in most youth these days — that is, the sincerity to help others to make the community a better place. And what’s wonderful is that he does not just talk. He does what he can to really help.
These days, Jamil is an active volunteer at one of our community centers — helping kids in the computer lab — in the Bicol region of the Philippines. He spends most of his time there; it’s like a second home to him.
