It's okay to be selfie-ish with your child!

Here's a little something from the way-back machine: Remember when you had to wait for photos to be developed before you could see them? I can still remember eagerly flipping through a new batch, the slick paper still smelling of chemicals.

What a photo-friendly world we now live in  where variations on a duck face regularly clutter our Facebook feeds and photos live in a cloud, not an album. Photos are so abundant that it seems they've lost some of their charm. (I know, I know. Next I'll be yelling at kids to “get off my lawn!” )

However, there is one exception  and that is the photos you send to your sponsored kids. Folks, there's gold in them thar photos!

Think about how much you love seeing a new photo of your kid. So, of course, they feel the same way about seeing one of you! If you're not a big fan of writing, let your photos do the talking for you. You can attach up to three photos to your letters and cards. Your kids can learn so much about you and your world from those images!

How else will they learn that Montana has 3 times as many cows as people or that Hawaii is the only state that grows coffee? (Or, you know, whatever you decide is important enough to share.)

Including photos makes your message even more personal!

Including photos makes your message even more personal!

In fact, to make it even easier for you, here is some text you can cut and paste into the letter template of your choice. Then, just add your photos and send:

Hi, (name)! I hope you are happy and healthy. I want you to know that I love being your sponsor! I've enclosed a few photos so you can learn more about me and my life.

Take care of yourself and study hard. I'll be thinking about you and sending happy thoughts your way.

Boom! You just sent a message to your child.
