The impact of Hurricane Iota in Colombia

Hurricane Iota in COLOMBIA

(November 24, 2020) As Hurricane Iota swept through Central America and the Caribbean, Northern Colombia experienced significant flooding after eight uninterrupted hours of heavy rains and wind. Around 155,000 people in total were affected.

COVID-19 restrictions are making it difficult for staff to visit families in impacted communities. At this time, we know that at least three community centers sustained damage, but this hasn’t affected Children International operations, as the centers remain closed to the public. It’s estimated that at least 100 sponsored families have experienced damage due to the floods, and local staff is working to provide support to those who need it.

Our sponsored communities will need help to recover from this storm and get back on their feet.

To help overwhelmed families, donate to the Critical Needs Fund.
