Hugo was spiraling, personally and educationally. Due to a difficult home life and financial challenges, he picked fights, didn’t do his homework and was in danger of being expelled from school.
That’s when Hugo’s teacher 3rd grade teacher, Children International and a local boxing coach and came together to help provide Hugo with the support he needed.
Hugo needed an activity that challenged him and allowed him to work out his aggression, so he took their suggestion to try boxing. And he’s good! He has already won several gold medals in his municipality.
Hugo’s mother and sister have seen the transformation. “I think that boxing is teaching my son to be disciplined, obedient and intelligent,” his mother Norma shares.
His sister Mayeli agrees. “You can see him at home, and he's training, sparring … but he's very happy, he spends his time thinking about studying, going to play with his teammates, and sharing with his teacher who has been a great support for him.”
Hugo offers a positive message to those who might be dealing with a difficult situation.
Children must have hope and see possibilities for themselves beyond their current circumstances. Our Empowerment and Life Skills Programs bring about life-changing attitudes and actions that help children and youth become positive forces in their lives and communities.
