We’re excited to announce our new program to help at-risk children in Little Rock, Arkansas!
We have collaborated with our U.S. partner, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock), for over 30 years to provide critical services to at-risk youth. After careful analysis of the children’s needs, UA Little Rock has determined the way forward: a program for kindergarten through eighth grade in several elementary schools and one middle school that focuses on social and emotional well-being.
Common Good will use a proven curriculum endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Education that is designed to give participating students the mindset and skillset they’ll need to succeed academically and personally.
The program partners with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the Little Rock School District and the Central Arkansas Library System to provide hands-on learning throughout the school day and beyond, which includes after-school programs, social studies lessons and counseling sessions.
We are always looking to improve the development and reach of the programs that benefit children. We realized that the program had to evolve to best meet the needs of the children and families in Little Rock. With the new program in Little Rock, we will be able to reach more children with developmental opportunities that are a better fit for their circumstances.
We are supporting a University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock) program that will use a proven social and emotional well-being curriculum to help students at four elementary schools and one middle school in Little Rock receive essential knowledge to thrive academically, in their personal development and, eventually, in the workplace. All children based in these schools will have the opportunity to benefit from this curriculum, thereby enhancing both their well-being and the overall culture of the school.
This initiative will serve approximately 2,000 students across five partner schools during the academic year, with extended support to an additional 200 students in summer programming.
The five guiding principles of Common Good have been identified by the Arkansas Department of Education as necessary to help educators, business leaders, communities and students develop these critical skills: Growth, Understanding, Interaction, Decisions and Empathy.
The program uses these principles to represent a set of skills needed to thrive at home, school, on the job and in a community.
