Transform a life. Sponsor a child in Guatemala today.

See how sponsorship works

Despite recent governmental reforms to improve security and reduce social and economic inequality, Guatemala’s widespread poverty and high unemployment rates remain stubbornly static. Still feeling the effects from decades of internal conflict, ongoing violence by armed groups is a major factor that hampers progress and endangers children’s well-being.*

The United Nations reports that nearly one-in-three Guatemalan girls are married or in union before they turn 18-years-old,* and that roughly 70% of upper secondary (high) school age children do not attend classes.* Most Guatemalans still live in rural areas — where the poverty rate of more than 66% is nearly 20 points higher than in urban areas,* and most available work is in the informal economy.

No matter where they live, low coverage and quality in education — and insufficient access to adequate health services — are two major obstacles preventing Guatemalan children and families from escaping poverty.
