Children living in poverty in Africa face unique challenges that our programs are designed to help them overcome. And our work in Zambia provides an opportunity to support a child in Africa and help them meet their critical needs.
The Zambian education system is understaffed and underfunded, making it difficult for young children who fall behind to catch up. Malnutrition in Zambian children is widespread and often causes setbacks that can last a lifetime. Unemployment and underemployment among youth create wide‑ranging personal and societal deficits.
Your monthly gift of $39 is an investment that gives your child access to proven programs and essential support, equipping them with the health, educational, social‑emotional, life skills and employability resources needed to achieve long-term stability.
As a sponsor, you’ll see your impact firsthand through letters and photos from your child. You can even visit!

Child sponsorship connects two people — a sponsor with a generous heart and a child living in poverty. From toddlerhood to young adulthood, our child and youth development program equips kids with crucial life and job skills to break the cycle of poverty. For good.
At Children International, we believe every child deserves the chance to thrive. And with support from caring individuals and philanthropic organizations, young people around the world are unlocking their potential. Together, we empower children and youth to build confidence, shape their futures and drive lasting change in their families and neighborhoods.

Without the kinds of interventions we provide, many children and families in and around Lusaka would lack access to comprehensive medical care and health education services. Our health programs also assist both families and health clinics to improve access and quality of care.
Trained, local staff and volunteers create safe, supportive environments where children feel secure and uplifted and gain a sense of belonging. Through your monthly sponsorship, our transformative programs provide kids with the educational support (through primary and secondary school), social-emotional development, and life and employability skills they need to confidently build a life of independence and opportunity.
When you sponsor a child in Africa, you are showing them that someone cares about their well-being. And developing that bond can boost their motivation and encourage them to believe in themselves and in their ability to forge a brighter future.

Nearly 60% of Zambian children grow up in poor households*, meaning they lack access to critical needs like nutritious food, clean water, health care, education and adequate housing. Our child and youth development program in Africa helps children and families address local challenges and systemic deficiencies, providing opportunities and interventions needed to improve their lives.
Your sponsorship gives African children reliable access to resources that are more difficult to secure in highly impoverished areas, such as educational support, preventative and curative health services, emotional well-being lessons, empowerment programs, employability assistance, and much more.

And the ripple effect of sponsorship means you aren’t just helping one child in Zambia. By providing tools for children and youth to become empowered and escape poverty, sponsorship uplifts families and helps improve entire communities.
Creating safer and more supportive environments increases stability and security in the neglected homes and neighborhoods where we work. This work includes building and sustaining strong partnerships that strengthen and improve educational and medical institutions in and around our communities.
