Poverty in the Dominican Republic

Kids growing up in poverty in the Dominican Republic face many grim issues, especially woefully inadequate health services, a high teen pregnancy rate, low quality schools, high unemployment for young adults and rampant crime.

That's why we focus on providing medical and dental care, educational assistance, youth programs to help kids understand the consequences of risky behaviors, and skills and training to help them stay in school and eventually find jobs.

See how our program works and why we focus on health, education, empowerment and employment.

A quick look at programs currently available for sponsored kids under age 12 in the Dominican Republic.

Kids in the D.R. enrolled in primary school receive school supplies or help with fees for documentation required to enroll.

Kids can enroll in fun, interactive classes that teach skills like decision-making and creative thinking and emphasize social issues such as respecting others and recycling.

For now, we’re helping kids under 12 grow up healthy, educated, empowered and prepared to take advantage of our employment programs when they become teens.
