Children International Zambia, CHAZ, and ZFDS leaders celebrate their new partnership at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, June 11, 2025.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 24, 2025) – The nonprofit Children International has announced transformative partnerships with two leading health organizations to advance children’s and community health across Zambia, Africa.

The collaboration brings together Children International Zambia (CIZ) with Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) and Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ). Both partnerships were formalized with Memorandums of Understanding signed at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka on June 11.

“These agreements are grounded in a shared vision,” said Christina Becherer, Senior Global Director of Strategic Partnerships at Children International. “By working together, we can extend the reach of critical health resources to where they’re needed most — so that children and families in even the hardest-to-reach areas have access to the quality care they need.”

The initiative centers on a strategic medical donations program, designed to provide life-saving treatment with the needed medicines and medical supplies to children and families in an accountable and efficient manner, especially in remote and underserved areas.

“Health equity means reaching every child, no matter how remote their village or how limited their resources. These partnerships are a powerful step toward that goal,” shared Doras Chirwa, Agency Director for Children International Zambia.

“Our colleagues in rural areas are struggling to access basic health services,” said Dr. George Nguni, CEO of the Zambia Flying Doctor Service. “We come in to bridge the gap, but we are talking about the adults who are able to walk 25 kilometers… how about our children who must be carried on their mothers’ backs? These donations will help us make certain no one is left behind.”

Micheal Kachumi, Acting Chief Executive Officer for Churches Health Association of Zambia, added, “Our objective is clear, to ensure that eligible children and youth along with their families receive the maximum benefits from this program.”

The program is already underway, with CIZ distributing essential medicines and supplies, based on field assessments of community needs. Children International led the effort, aligning each partner’s strengths to deliver timely support and improve health outcomes for vulnerable children and families in Zambia.
