Children International has been working in impoverished communities in Guayaquil, Ecuador, since 1989. One of the areas where we are seeking to improve services to sponsored children is in the community of Francisco Jácome. In this area, low-income inhabitants suffer from poverty-related issues, such as lack of a sewage and garbage collection system, rodent infestation, disease, child malnutrition, domestic violence, economic instability and unemployment.
We are planning on replacing an old, outdated center with a new one-story building that will have plenty of space and modern facilities to serve our current sponsored population and more. Because of the size of the land on which the new center will be built, we have the unique opportunity to build a larger community center than we typically do, so we can help nearly twice the number of children we’re currently serving in the community.
The new center will serve between 8,000 to 10,000 sponsored children in an organized and comfortable space. We hope to equip the center with up-to-date computers, medical and dental equipment, and superior recreational facilities, such as a youth activity center, multi-sport court and playground in order to help attract children to the center and keep them there so they can develop skills and leadership potential in a safe, inviting environment.
We also hope to use the new center as a catalyst – to empower the community to improve its economic and development situation.
Community Centers: Building Hope for the Future
Thank you to those donating to our community center campaign! Each center that we build not only provides crucial care for thousands of needy children, but stands as a symbol of our long-term commitment to the community itself.
While gifts of any amount are welcomed, contributors who provide a gift of at least $1,000 toward construction of a community center will receive:
