Hi, everybody! I am new to sponsorship (just started in November of this year) and am sponsoring a young boy from the DR. I saw an older forum with others who are sponsoring DR children as well, but the posts are from 2014 so I wanted to try and see if I could meet new people this way! I would really love to connect to other sponsors through this! I just sent my child my first letter and am anxiously waiting to hear back.

I'm looking forward to meeting some new people. Happy holidays!

Hi. I started sponsoring 6 year old Mia who lives in the Dominican Republic town of Santo Domingo. So glad to meet you. I wrote my first letter to Mia a couple of weeks ago. My understanding is that letters to the children go through a screening and translation process before they are printed and given to the children and the process takes several weeks. I'm really looking forward to getting a return letter from Mia. In what city does the child you're sponsoring live.

Hi Cynthia. That is wonderful news about the girl you're sponsoring turning 18. I just started sponsoring 6 year old Mia who lives in Santo Domingo. Is there an age limit for children that can be sponsored through CI? Also, does the girl you're sponsoring have a job? I'm just wondering what kind of job opportunities exist in the Dominican Republic. Thanks so much. Julie

Hi Julia_a16c1: The youth graduate from our program a few months after their 19th birthday. Many sponsors help the same child from a young age until graduation.  The majority of the youth in our program do not work, as they are still completing their education and participating in our programs to help them with their education (tutoring), learning skills or helping them continue their education after high school completion. We have many great programs for teenagers, and you can read about them on our website.  Welcome to CI!

Hello 👋

My child has graduated from high school and is now headed to the university this month.  He is from DR, and is still available to participate in the program for another year.  I wrote him a letter today.  Hopefully, he will be able to write soon,  with an update oh how things are going for him at the university.

Best to all!

I just started 2 weeks ago sponsoring a little 4 year old beautiful girl with a huge smile in the DR.  I have such a peace coming from doing this but that is what happens when you listen to God and act on what honors God.  I can't wait for the day when I get to see her as an adult and hopefully meet her face to face.  God's peace and blessings to you, Rob

That's our dream!  To visit the 2 little girls we sponsor at least a couple of times before they become adults.  The little girl in DR is 4 years old and the little one in Africa is 8 now.  Can't wait to see them but until then we will be on our knees praying for them and their families.  God's peace, love and blessings be with you.  Rob
