Youth Resource Center in India

building a youth resource center in KOLKATA, INDIA

About the center

A new center dedicated to serving the needs of Children International’s growing youth population will soon open its doors in Kolkata, India. The new four-floor Youth Resource Center, strategically located between the Doshi Dream Center in Jorasanko and our community center in Narkeldanga, will provide safe spaces, positive mentors and ample room to comfortably hold the large groups of youth who participate in our programs.

For at-risk youth in neglected communities, welcoming, spacious centers help limit their exposure to the negative influences of gangs, drugs, alcohol and other factors they face during a critical time in their lives.

This new center will make it possible for our team in Kolkata to lead young people in the empowerment and employment activities that will cultivate the skills they need to break free from poverty. Empowerment programs range from adolescent health, emotional well-being and Sport for Development, to tutoring, social and financial education, and youth leadership. Older youth can take part in our HOPE® Scholarship, Into Employment® and Career Readiness programs.

About the community

Our two community centers serving children and youth in Narkeldanga and Jorasanko are located in neighborhoods with extremely high-density populations. These communities are located near the banks of the Hooghly River, a distributary of the Ganges. Overcrowding, poor sewage and high crime rates pose serious challenges to the health, safety and well-being of the families who live there.

We are grateful to the donors who believe

Naming opportunities

Make a lifelong impact on children’s futures by naming one of the rooms still available. The very spaces that are changing the lives of kids will honor you or someone you love. We will highlight your investment with a plaque in the available room of your choice, in addition to adding the room name to our website.
