Children International
2000 East Red Bridge Road
Kansas City, MO 64131
National Director of Philanthropy
Children International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization working to eradicate poverty around the world. At CI, we believe that every child matters and that it is simply unacceptable that over a billion children live in poverty. The CI approach is to invest in our kids and youth by providing a safe place, a caring team and a path out of poverty through programs in health, education, empowerment and employment. We provide this support for 250,000 children in 13 agencies working in 10 countries around the world.
The work Children International does on behalf of children in poverty is funded primarily through a one-to-one sponsorship model. We are transforming our funding model to dramatically increase the support we provide our kids. Additionally, we are taking our programs from good to great by elevating our people systems and practices worldwide. That’s where you come in.
The National Director of Planned Giving will lead the Planned Giving (PG) strategy and inform the support operations required to do the work most effectively. The focus will be on growing the planned giving efforts to gift expectancies of $5-10 million in annual deferred revenue. In partnership with the Vice President of Global Philanthropy, the National Director of PG will be responsible for working effectively and collaboratively across the organization (major gifts, mass market, child sponsorship, legal, and finance) to identify opportunities for enhanced donor outreach and developing an annual and longer-term strategic plan for Planned Giving. This position reports to the Vice President of Global Philanthropy.
The Director will oversee PG training and guidance to the Major and Midlevel team to leverage opportunities with major and middle gift donors and prospects, and will help lead marketing, cultivation and stewardship strategies, including identification of top PG prospects, building a Children International planned giving society (to be named), direct marketing efforts, cultivation events, in-person solicitations, and the development of planned giving on the CI website. The Director will also help identify and close bequest opportunities as part of any Children International planned campaign (culminating in 2019). This position will also work directly with and be coached and mentored by a Planned Giving consultant and serve as an ambassador for Children International with financial advisors, focusing on potential donors and Planned Giving networking opportunities.
