New York, NY – From a life of stark poverty to the Big Apple, three sponsored youth from around the world overcome obstacles to attend the United Nations International Youth Day.
The United Nations has invited three sponsored teens from Children International, a Kansas City-based child sponsorship organization, to attend the annual International Youth Day Celebration on August 10, 2007.
Patience Stephens, the United Nations Focal Point on Youth, hopes the youth will learn from their experience, “We want them to get the message that their participation matters. We want them to know we recognize youth are an invaluable resource in development. We also want the youth to leave energized to follow their dreams for themselves and their communities.”
While at the celebration, the teens will attend the Milennium Development Goals event, hear the Global Citizenship Survey presentation, experience cultural presentations from other countries, and meet other youth from around the world.
James R. Cook, president and CEO of Children International, says, “Our youth have worked so hard to excel in a world where obstacles are all around them. We are very proud they were invited to attend such a prestigious event, and know they will learn from their experience.”
