| CHILD PARTICIPATION |
|
At every step, our programs reinforce the ideals of personal responsibility, social awareness and participation in community activities.
More responsible citizens can lead to more responsible communities.
|
|
For young children, participation in Children International's sponsorship program involves receiving health and dental care, educational support, nutritional screenings and assistance, clothing and shoes as well as other material benefits.
These children enjoy drawing pictures and sending letters to and receiving letters and photos from their sponsor. |
As they move into their teens, many sponsored youth get involved in our Youth Program, learning leadership skills, civic responsibility and participating in vocational training or preparing for college.
Many sponsored youth make the decisions to give back to Children International and their community by tutoring younger sponsored children and providing them with positive role models. |

Graduation
Nothing thrills parents, volunteers and all of us at Children International like the long-awaited graduations of sponsored youth.
Sponsorship has been an important safety net over the course of their lives. The selfless encouragement of their sponsor has helped these young adults learn the necessary skills to lead self-reliant and hopefully successful lives.
When youth reach the age of 19, it is time for them to leave the program and put what they've learned to use.
Graduations are a time to recognize an important milestone in the lives of sponsored youth and their sponsors.
Departures
We encourage every child to reap the benefits of sponsorship by staying in the program as long as possible.
However, there are instances when sponsored children leave the program prematurely:
- A family may move out of the sponsorship service area
- Financial and living conditions may improve to the point where a family no longer needs assistance
- A child willfully decides not to participate in the program or chooses not to comply with program requirements
- Youth might get married early or succumb to negative peer pressure or other influences that exclude them from participation
- There may also be instances when we are forced to close or consolidate areas due to safety concerns, political unrest or to increase the effectiveness of the program.
If a sponsored child does leave the program for any reason, we will notify sponsors by mail as soon as we are aware of the situation. We will also introduce those sponsors to other needy children who would benefit from their support.
