HOUSING PROGRAM
Sheltering families in their time of need
Dirt floors. Walls made of black plastic and rusted tin. Leaking roofs that pour rivers of water into homes during storms.
Many children grow up in heartbreaking conditions because their families can’t afford anything else. They build shelters out of whatever they can purchase for pennies…or find discarded alongside the road.
This is a recipe for constant illness and crippling despair...

Stopping the spread of disease
Here’s the ugly truth...parasites are a real problem in poor communities. They sit in stagnant pools of filthy water and animal feces that children walk through barefoot – or even play in – because they don’t know any better.
They flourish in conditions that are common around the slum, and lurk undetected on dirty hands and feet that are easily passed on.
That’s why Children International’s anti-parasite campaign has been so important around the world. By providing anti-parasite medicine to children and families in hundreds of communities, we’re reducing infection rates and the complications associated with parasite infestations, while health and hygiene training are preventing reinfections.
